I taught at a convention (for the first time), and I figured I’d write about it a little. But, not right now. I mostly just wanted to say something about Hurricane Helene and give a safety update about the originally intended workshop instructor.
I was a last-minute substitution for Ruth Alpert, who was unfortunately stuck in North Carolina due to the flooding from Hurricane Helene. The situation there continues to be horrible, with a lot of people having trouble getting access to basic supplies. I have some links here if you’re able in a safe place and have the funds to donate:
There is also a doc here listing various resources if you’re affected by the flood, or if you’re not and you want to help out.
As a note: If you happen to know Ruth IRL, she asks that you not text to ask how she’s doing, because getting power for her cell phone is proving to be a challenge and all the texts are draining her battery. She wants everyone to know that she’s doing well enough, in that she’s safe and has supplies other than a reliable source of power.
<3 Stay safe, everyone.
